A Tapestry About Loving Your Body

Crochet is a familiar yet fun technique for me, so I decided to challenge myself during the summer to make a tapestry. I also wanted to combine this with a subject that is always a struggle for me and other women leading up to and during summer: 'the summer body'. It has been so deeply ingrained in my brain by society (and particularly enforced by social media) that I need to 'get ready' for summer by exercising and dieting in order to get my body to look a certain way. A central theme in my work is the female naked body. I like to make illustrations about the naked female body, and I think this is the case because it is about me trying to accept my body the way it is.
So, I wanted to use one of these illustrations and create a tapestry with it. Since my childhood I have loved the purple/yellow color contrast, so I decided to implement this as well. The project was however too ambitious to complete during summer, so I am still working on it. As of right now, I am halfway done! As you can see on the pictures, it is already getting quite big!
