Cyanotype walk - Workshop on Landscape Reading
For this project, we were challenged to combine our creative & academic studies. At the time, I had just moved to Rotterdam. I had been wanting to explore my neighborhood, so I decided this was a good opportunity to do so.
Thus, I defined my goal as follows: 'My goal for this project is to map the area I live in in Rotterdam, which is Kralingen. I want to combine this with creating by using an analog technique called cyanotype. I chose this technique because I think I can use it to create something by using the landscape itself (or rather, it's shadows). By doing this, I hope to experiment with this technique, while documenting Kralingen and feeling more at home there.'
I researched landscape reading, and created my own version of this by using cyanotypes. In this way, I was able to document and 'read' the landscape of Kralingen via its shadows. I also identified patterns in the landscape, the main one being the many stained glass windows that can be found in Kralingen. I used this pattern to illustrate a folder I distributed during the landscape reading workshop I gave, so people could look back at the explanation and have a fun souvenir!
During this project, I used Hotglue to track my process. You can find the link here, feel free to take a look if you want to have a more in-depth look into my process!
